DESCRIPTION:“Through European Eyes: Prints of the North American West, 1849-1908” is the perception of Native Americans by Europeans through the lenses of history, culture, politics, artistic practices, and visual material. Inquiry into this art historical question parallels contemporary research in film and literature.\nThe exhibit, on display at The University of Montana Campus, Meloy and Paxson Galleries located in PARTV Center, will address cultural perception, the influence of media, the mixing of nationalism and culture, art as a record of the human experience, the influence and attraction of Native culture to distant peoples with various languages, religious practices and their sympathies and predispositions toward Native culture. The artworks will offer viewers an opportunity to examine the root curiosity and for some, total fascination of Germans, English and French toward Native American culture.\nVisit http://www.umt.edu/montanamuseum/ for more information.\n
