SUMMARY:Elk River Arts & Lecture Series: The Importanceof Civic Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Authors Pam Houston and Taylor Brorby lead a discussion on the importance of civic engagement, particularly as it pertains to public land issues.\nBrorby is the editor of an anthology on oil and gas development titled, “Fracture: Essays and Poems on Fracking in America.” His work includes the poetry collection “Crude,” as well as a long-form essay, “Coming Alive: Action and Civil Disobedience.”\nHouston is a pioneer of modern biological fiction, and her essays, short stories and novels have garnered her the Western States Book Award, the WILLA award for contemporary fiction, the Evil Companions Literary Award and several teaching awards.\nDuring their visit—which is made possible through Humanities Montana’s Montana Conversations program —they also will meet with students at Park High School. The free, public event will take place upstairs at 7 p.m., at Elk River Books, 120 N. Main St., in Livingston.\n
