Through stories and legends, Joyce brings authentic native voices into the contemporary classroom. While working with Native writers such as Sherman Alexie, and the poets in the Birthright publication (OPI), Joyce focuses on the challenges facing the modern Indian as they straddle both the modern world and the traditional. Students are asked to do reflective writing regarding insights they garner from another world view. She works with teachers to tailor instruction to each classroom’s needs in both teaching native content and reaching native students.
Molly Joyce has been an educator for over 30 years. She is currently the principal at St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana.
