Awards for Excellence in the Public Humanities

The Governor’s Humanities Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions in the public humanities, consequently transforming lives and strengthening Montana’s communities.

*Leaders in the public humanities engage the general public in reflecting on diverse cultures, traditions, and histories, and their relevance to current conditions of life. Past awards have recognized the achievements of historians, novelists, tribal elders, philosophers, librarians, teachers, and other cultural leaders.

Awardees demonstrate:

Excellence and achievement in the public humanities
Dedication to Montana’s cultural community through ongoing contributions
Significant efforts worthy of statewide recognition

*Nominees may not be current staff or board members of Humanities Montana.  Posthumous awards will not be considered.

Deadline:

Humanities Montana will accept nominations until Wednesday, March 15th, 2020, at 11:59 p.m.

Upon review of all nominations, up to twelve finalists will be chosen. Their respective nominators will be asked to complete a more comprehensive application.
