The Journey of York: Unsung Hero of the Lewis and Clark Expedition

While the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition is synonymous with American adventure, one member of the historic team stood out from the rest. Little known, even today, York, was the Corps of Discovery’s only black member. From enslaved servant of the mission’s co-leader, William Clark, to a voting member of the most daring expedition ever mounted by the United states, explore the triumph and the tragedy, witness the courage and the compromise of America’s growing pains. This is York’s Journey of Discovery.

Hasan Davis has shared the Journey of York more than 500 times in the last 25 years and feels blessed to continue bringing his unique experience to audiences across this great nation.

This program is sponsored by the Missouri Headwaters State Park, Jefferson River Chapter LCTHF, Humanities Montana and the National Park Service – Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.

We come together with a passion for sharing unique and diverse stories of the expedition and bringing awareness and education to the general public and park visitors.

Participants should bring their lawn chairs and bug spray for this outdoor presentation. The program will be held at the main picnic area of the state park. Smores will be served after the program.

The event is finished.
