Miss Wren
after an artwork by Sara Joyce

She sits,
Hands stitched,
Draped by her side.
She sits,
Cheeks pink,
Stained from the fierce wind outside.
She sits,
She hopes,
She prays,
But she’ll never be able to stand.
I sit,
And watch,
And try to imagine
What she’s like.
She sits,
Forever still,
Weighed down by society.
She sits,
I sit,
We watch each other dream.
Her eyes never look,
Her heart never beats,
But within her I see,
A beautiful scene
Where she’s finally free.
