Public Programs and Coronavirus

Humanities Montana values the health and wellbeing of all involved with our public programs – including speakers, teachers, program sponsors, students, and public audiences. As this pandemic moves through the U.S. and the world, we are watching unprecedented measures being taken in a rapidly changing situation and working to respond thoughtfully and safely.

We are paying close attention to the upcoming relief funding package being prepared by Congress and supporting the development of a request by the National Humanities Alliance and National Endowment for the Humanities that will be submitted to the House and Senate Interior subcommittees. We will soon share ways you can advocate for the humanities as an essential part of our lives.

At this time, Humanities Montana is indefinitely suspending public programs. We will work with sponsoring organizations on moving events to virtual spaces, rescheduling, or canceling. We will continue to reevaluate and update you as the situation progresses and will restart public programming as soon as it is safe.

As of now, our April 20 grant deadline remains open. For questions about grants, contact Kim Anderson. For information about specific upcoming programs and whether they have been canceled or postponed, see our events calendar.

As public institutions and small businesses close, opportunities to engage socially and democratically narrow. Humanities Montana is working on ways to increase our social connection through digital humanities programs. We will work with our many partners around the state, and to continue to support the vital cultural and educational resources we all rely on—especially in times like these.

We will begin expanding our online resources and reach out to you with stories and conversations soon.
