Spotlight on the Democracy Project in Forsyth, Montana

Democracy Project teens from the Cheer Team, meeting at the Rosebud County Public Library, have started a project to make their school a more positive place. The project, focused on breathing new life into the locker rooms and boosting school spirit has five phases: planning and proposal, deep clean, prep and paint, decorate, and clean up and reveal. This year they completed phase one by meeting with the school board to propose their plan which they aligned with current strategic planning efforts. The teens hope the proposed remodel/ facelift on the locker rooms will create a team orientation, and be a safe place for anyone who struggles throughout the day at Forsyth High School.
The decorate phase will include the addition of team colors and positive affirmations. The reveal will include a community dinner, sale of team gear, and a raffle. If more sponsors are needed they plan to reach out to the power plant and the mine and have a donation jar at games.
“These students are a great example of how small changes can lead to a big impact. Their initiative shows that civic impact can be as local as your school hallways.” – Rosebud County Public Library director
