About Humanities Montana

Humanities Montana is Montana’s statewide humanities council. With a mission to serve Montana’s multicultural communities through stories and conversation, Humanities Montana offers experiences that nurture imagination and ideas by speaking to Montanans’ diverse history, literature, and philosophy. Established in 1972, Humanities Montana is one of 56 councils across the nation that the National Endowment for the Humanities created in order to better infuse the humanities directly and effectively into public life. Humanities Montana produces and supports historical programs, eye-opening cultural experiences, and meaningful conversations by engaging communities through the humanities.

Funding for Humanities Montana comes from multiple sources including the National Endowment for the Humanities, private foundations, grants, and individual donors. The board looks forward to more diversification of its funding streams to better support the enrichment that the humanities offer to Montana communities.
