Teens at Plenty Coups High School Researching Project Ideas
Democracy Project teens on the Crow Nation have begun doing their research! They have been focusing on three things: learning about our democratic system of government and their role in it as individual citizens; understanding Native American voting rights and participation; and researching the most appropriate species of trees might be for planting on their school campus. There are currently no trees on their campus. They ordered several books on each topic to best guide them into 2026 and their project: Tree Planting! The teens will also be zooming with the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation to discuss the most appropriate trees for the climate and desires as well as the possibility of a grant to help with the purchasing of trees! Stay tuned to see what species they choose.
Plenty Coups High School joined the Democracy Project soft launch in 2024 to begin planning for full program participation in 2025. In 2024 they traveled to Helena to witness the legislative session and worked with their student council.
