Program Description

Story Structure, with author Robin Kolb, is an interactive creative writing workshop that teaches the foundational elements of story. Drawing from multiple sources, including her novel Galloping Away, the 2026 One Book Montana and Great Reads from Great Places Youth Selection, Kolb guides participants through individual and group activities to explore how story elements are connected to convey a comprehensive and compelling tale. Understanding story structure will not only help students with creative writing, it’s also beneficial for reading comprehension, essay writing, and more.

Presenter Bio

Robin Kolb is an award-winning author who lives in Western Montana. Growing up, she spent countless hours riding her pony or reading a book – occasionally at the same time! Her passion for horses grew from that first pony to working in show stables, to breeding and training her own foals. Her love of books and learning led her to degrees in English, Anthropology, and a M.S. in Geology.

Robin and her husband raised two independent daughters, and pastures full of critters. She’s served as both a teacher and a riding instructor. These days, Robin writes heartfelt stories and still believes in happy endings. In addition to writing and reading, you can find her hiking with her Australian Shepherds, shooting a traditional bow, or baking horse-shaped cookies.
