Poetry provides a language for the “interior life”: our feelings, dreams, thoughts, perceptions. It does this through careful attentiveness to the image, on which the imagination is based. In this generative workshop Kwasny works with teachers who are interested in integrating poetry writing in their curriculum. Kwasny provides sample poems, both contemporary and traditional, and prompts that ask students to work closely with the sensory image in order to craft poems about experiences important to them. She also provides a handful of tools the students can carry into their future writing lives.
