All Democracy Projects are Teen-led
Everyone always wonders what kinds of projects teens have created. Since the Democracy Project is teen-led, the projects reflect the teens’ own concerns within their specific communities.
Projects have included:
- Anti-cyber bullying initiatives
- Teen traffic safety kits
- Hydroponic gardening
- Outdoor classroom
- Teen-run podcast
- Memorial tree-planting
- Providing educational tours for a traveling exhibition about the Holocaust
- Support for local food banks
- Library and playground revitalization
All groups learn what it means to live in a participatory democracy, what it means to be non-partisan, and how to work with their local civic leadership to implement their projects. All groups run a voter registration drive. Teens are also learning about our Montana State Constitution. The best place to see projects and learn about the impact of The Democracy Project is by watching the short film on the Democracy Project webpage.
Keep an eye out for new sites onboarding this year. That will mean exciting new project ideas. And Montana’s biennial legislature will be in session so we might even be seeing you all in Helena! We can’t wait to see what the teens come up with.
