Big Sky Reads Grants

Big Sky Reads grants are now available through the Montana Center for the Book! This $500 grant supports public book clubs in rural communities that engage in thought-provoking discussions about literature. Book clubs from Polson to Scobey have recently received the grant. With support of the Big Sky Reads grant, library director Crystal Buchanan at the Thompson Falls Library shared that “the impact our book club has on the community is giving a place and way for others to connect with each other that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.” To learn more about the grant, visit our Big Sky Reads program page.

Democracy Project Outreach Trip

Humanities Montana program staff made their annual outreach trip around the state last month, traveling 2,045 miles over 10 days. They visited 32 libraries and attended the High Plains Book Awards!

These visits promote connection and collaboration among constituents, partners, and stakeholders as well as cross-pollination of Humanities Montana programs and grants. Current Democracy Project sites participating in either the full program or the soft launch option are: Columbia Falls, Eureka, Helena, Boulder, Bozeman, Columbus, Pryor, Miles City, Forsyth, Circle, Wibaux, Poplar, Browning, Geraldine, Fairfield, and Conrad.

Staff also visited the Montana State Library and received a very warm welcome at prospective future Democracy Project sites at the Daniels County Public Library in Scobey, the Stone Child College Library in Box Elder, and the Great Falls Public Library.
